Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa says the company is aware of ongoing Pokémon card scalping issues and is looking at ways to help more products reach actual collectors and players.
During Nintendo’s recent shareholder meeting, Furukawa was asked about bulk buying, resale activity, and whether fans can still enjoy the Pokémon Card Game without worrying about shortages or inflated prices. In response, he said Nintendo recognizes the issue and will continue working with The Pokémon Company on ways to improve product availability.
Some of the measures mentioned include closer cooperation with online marketplace platforms, expanded made-to-order sales, and stronger buyer verification systems. In Japan, certain online lottery-style sales already require government-issued ID, which could point to stricter purchase controls in the future.
The problem has grown despite massive production numbers. According to the article, around 10 billion Pokémon cards were printed in 2025 alone, yet demand still remains difficult to satisfy. This has allowed the resale market to stay strong, with high-demand products often being bought up quickly and resold at higher prices.
For collectors, this could be a positive sign. If Nintendo and The Pokémon Company continue to increase made-to-order options and improve anti-scalping measures, future Pokémon TCG releases may become easier to access at retail pricing. However, with demand still extremely high, it may take time before fans notice a major difference.
